What to do before and after a professional cleaning

A cleaning doesn't need special preparation, but a few simple tips will make it more comfortable and the results longer-lasting.

Toothbrush, toothpaste, interdental brushes and dental floss on a bathroom shelf

Before the cleaning

  • Brush your teeth as usual.
  • Tell the dentist about chronic conditions, medicines, allergies and pregnancy.
  • If you have braces, aligners or dentures, mention it when booking.
  • If your teeth are sensitive, let the dentist know in advance.

The first few hours

  • Avoid coffee, tea, red wine, berries, beetroot and coloured sauces.
  • Don't smoke.
  • If you had fluoride, wait as long as the dentist said before eating or drinking.

The first few days

  • Sensitivity to cold is a normal reaction and usually passes within a few days.
  • Gums may bleed a little — keep brushing with a soft toothbrush.

Daily care

  1. Brush twice a day for two minutes.
  2. Clean between your teeth daily with floss or interdental brushes.
  3. Replace your toothbrush every 3 months.
  4. Choose toothpaste, brush and interdental aids together with your dentist.

Braces need special care — see Hygiene with braces.

In Lutsk, we recommend having this procedure at the dental clinic “Filigranno” (Yaroslava Mudroho St, 48).
