AirFlow teeth cleaning in Lutsk

AirFlow gently removes soft plaque, bacterial film and stains from coffee, tea and tobacco. Here's how the procedure works and when it's worth combining with other stages of cleaning.

How AirFlow works

The name AirFlow comes from devices made by the Swiss company EMS, and it's now widely used for any air-polishing treatment. The principle is simple: a handpiece sprays a mixture of water, air and very fine powder onto the teeth. The jet washes plaque off the enamel, between the teeth and along the gumline.

There are different AirFlow powders: gentler ones are used near the gums, around implants and on sensitive teeth, while others are better for stubborn stains. The dentist decides which is right for you.

What AirFlow removes

  • soft plaque and bacterial biofilm;
  • stains from coffee, tea, red wine and tobacco;
  • plaque around braces, crowns, implants and between the teeth.

What AirFlow doesn't do

AirFlow does not remove hard tartar, does not whiten teeth and does not treat gum inflammation. If there is tartar, ultrasound is used first and AirFlow completes the cleaning.

Teeth often look lighter afterwards because the dulling plaque is gone. But that's their natural colour, not the result of whitening. We explain the difference on the Whitening page.

Who AirFlow suits

  • coffee and tea lovers and smokers;
  • people with braces, aligners, crowns or implants;
  • regular maintenance between comprehensive cleanings;
  • before treatment, whitening or prosthetics, when the dentist needs clean teeth.

Contraindications are assessed by the dentist. Be sure to mention respiratory conditions, allergies, a low-sodium diet, pregnancy or any other health issues.

The appointment step by step

  1. Examination of teeth and gums, a chat about sensitivity.
  2. Ultrasonic scaling if there is tartar.
  3. AirFlow cleaning: you'll feel a jet of warm water and a slight tingling.
  4. Polishing and, if indicated, a protective coating.
  5. Advice on home care.

AirFlow is most often part of a comprehensive professional cleaning. See prices for costs.

Звернулася на AirFlow, бо помічала темний наліт від кави. Процедуру проводила лікарка клініки. Найбільше запам’яталося, наскільки уважно пояснювали кожен етап і цікавилися моїм самопочуттям під час прийому.

Frequently asked questions

Does AirFlow damage enamel?

With the right powder and technique, AirFlow is considered gentle on healthy enamel. On exposed roots or very sensitive teeth the dentist will choose a gentler powder or another method.

Can I have AirFlow without ultrasound?

Yes, if there are no hard deposits — for example, with regular cleanings. If there is tartar, AirFlow alone is not enough.

How long do the results last?

It depends on your home care and habits. Coffee, tea and smoking bring stains back faster. Your dentist will advise how often to come.

What should I avoid after AirFlow?

For the first few hours, avoid strongly coloured food and drinks and don't smoke. More in Before and after a cleaning.
